Background


Education

Stephen Nutt holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, as well as a Master of Music from University of California, Los Angeles, and Bachelor of Music from California State University, Northridge.

Teaching

Stephen serves as music faculty at California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo and Antelope Valley College. He has taught at various schools in CVUSD including Thousand Oaks High School, Westlake High School, Oak Park High School, Redwood Middle School and Los Cerritos Middle School. He has been teaching privately since 2012.

Performance

Nutt is an active freelance performer based in the Los Angeles area, performing all over California with various orchestras and performing groups. His experience covers a wide range of musical styles, from classical to traditional jazz and modern fusion.

Among the many groups Nutt has performed with, he is a permanent member of several, including: Sicnarf Jazz Fusion Band, Riverboat Dixie Jazz Band, Hammerstein Musik Bavaria, Angel City Brass Club and EQ Brass Quintet.

In addition to performance, Nutt is an avid proponent of chamber music and has produced several concerts under the FreeLAncer Concert Series in Los Angeles. He is currently developing a new chamber music series that will operate throughout California, focusing on San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles as hubs.

Doug Tornquist, Jim Self, Norm Pearson, Blake Cooper and Aubrey Foard were among his teachers and mentors.
